Why do you ask? You live and teach in Dublin, you even run a number of clubs, including a bachata club. I'm really surprised you asked this. Jak replied on 20/08/2010 @ 11:23 |

I dont dance in Dublin too often so maybe im not the best person to answer, but for me its a toss up between the Garda Club and the Odeon. They usually play a great mix of music.
I was in the Garda Club last week for the first time in about a year, but the music was great, and I had some great Bachatas. I think I saw you there too.
I dont take classes in Dublin, so i cant really help with that one sorry.
I hope this helps.

Yeah I agree with Tom,
Both have a great mix of music and the DJ's are really great at playing requests if you really want a song.
DJ Gary and Edwin 'El Diablo' are the best DJ's we got.
Last thursday Tom made an appearance in Dublin but we had a full crew there and we all had a GREAT night with the music and the dancers.
Sunday then we even had some from London over to dance in the odeon and that again with the Music was an AWESOME night.
So I agree with Tom, The Garda Club or The Odeon (depending on the night you want to dance) are the ONLY places to be

I always do like the garda club in dublin. i like the odeon but the dance floor is not as big upstairs. ..
dissapionted last staurday, as like you i went out looking for salsa and bachata and found salsa obsession not as obsessed as myself and the havana desolate for salsa. i checked out this site for the events which stated pachino's first class at 20:30 to which i was told it wasn't on till 22:30. i thought fine- it's only doing the club this week.. 22:45 i was told maybe in an hour the salsa will start... that to me isn't salsa obsession. SO back to the havana and odeon and no joy either. Maybe they were having just as bad a day as i was. i will try again some other time as they seem like good places.
But if ya get any Good suggestions for Bachata on saturday, i'd be well pleased.

Hi Leixliplearner,
I dont know if you are familair with Vanessa, but she runs monthly parties in moate which will be starting up again in september. Its a bit of a drive, but with the motorway its not to bad. In my humble opinion, its got the best dancefloor in the country, probably because its a dance hall, and the atmosphere is always great.
They are always on a saturday night, and she plays a great mix of music to suit all tastes.
hope this is some help

I won't be there next Wednesday so technically it's not fully true...sorry to disapoint! Though, Davey you wouldn't be my kind of partner anyway!

No problem Jak we can agree to disagree on that but i was waiting on Sexymario's answer.
I'm looking forward to trying to have a dance with this person

Ummm... best at what? Doesn't that depend on your choice of style + personal preferences e.g. Italian vs Dominican vs American vs Peurto Rican , they appear to have all quite different ways of dancing to the same tune
I'm practically dohac when it comes to Bachata but even someone as bad as that has a personal preference when it comes to style ( the close quarter - go nowhere style of dancing this dance is what I find most impressive )
To paraphrase someone else rather horrifically: The best is the person who can train and learn all he can until he has understood that he knows nothing but that he stands at the foot of a mountain the heights of which he will never reach and yet still begins to climb...
Um... yeah.... to put it another way - the term 'best dancer' is so subjective it borders on incomprehensible gibberish.
The best place to dance however... that might be a different ball game I didnt know of any bachata only clubs in Dublin, I'm rarely in Dublin on Wednesday, but if I am I'll give it a look

dohac? I looked it up on acronym finder and all I got was "Department of Health and Aged Care". Either acronym finder can't find the acronym or the government is trying to sort out the health system though dance. Which wouldn't surprise me either ... Ciaran Hegarty replied on 27/08/2010 @ 17:45 |

Thanks for the input lads.
i've had great time over in moate too but my job keeps me busy sunday morning so i must stay reasonable close.
Monday - Mullingar Salsa with andre
Tuesday - Turks Head Salsa
Wednesday - going to start cuban beginners in arlington/ now also i'll give the bachata club mentioned above a go
Thursday has to be the Garda club salsa and bachata
Friday I usually go to the mint to Relax and listen
Saturday sucks for Salsa near dublin or leixlip
Sunday is rare for me but the only good place i know is the odoen
( P.s Every time I mention Salsa , it's assumed there will be bachata involved.)
Just recently came back from poland (Wroclaw)... there all salsa/cuban/bahcata mad over there... I'll be back there next month. (took a day off sunday for this one though )

Also, LL, if you dont mind, could you record the names of the Salsa places in Wroclaw + maybe share them on a thread? Would be useful for some people.... Hugh1a replied on 30/08/2010 @ 07:59 |

So who is the best bachata dancer in Dublin and possibly all of ireland in your opnion??
where did the comment below come from ???
I was just curious as it has raised interest for me.
Jealousy really is a terrible thing, it makes even the nicest people turn nasty.

hugh1a, i'll send ya on the names.. when i come back again. i didn't write them down last time.
i don't think you can ask guys who's the best bachata dancer.. should get the ladies vote in on this one. i know that many MOVES doesn't make you good at it. if you can dance on the spot and make it look good- THEN your better than most.
(alot learned from poland but i don't want to sound like broken record)
sorry
