What makes your salsa night?

What's the one thing that makes a night of salsa dancing for you? Is it the music, floor, atmosphere or a particular dance partner?

Hi Mike

I think it can depend on a given night.

Had possibly the best fun I've ever had with salsa last Sunday evening at the Little Havana Festival in Galway, the highlight had to be dancing on the street outside Neachtains bar from about half nine till half eleven with DJ Floiran, it was just this amazing music and the atmosphere was absolutely electric, then up to the Kings Head bar where a live band (a combination of musicians I think) and they played some fantastic music and really got the crowd involved...it wasn't so much about the dancing here, just enjoying the music and the atmosphere it created, amazing night, not to be forgotten anytime soon.

In general, a great night out for me is probably a mixture of music and dance partner, had a brilliant night out recently  where the music was great and got a great buzz from dancing to it. But  I think how I click with or am comfortable with a person on the dance floor dictates how much I enjoy it, and is just as important as the music if not more, and on this night I was dancing Cuban and Line with 2 people who dance 2 different styles but yet I had such a good time with both because I think we just have a good connection or are in tune with each other when we dance.

The floor can be lived with, the music is kinda important alright, but atmosphere + dance partners are the most important imo.

A night of smiles and gentility, in this tough world, is probably what makes the night.

'Clicking' with your dance partner, and 'owning' a dance - thats what kickstarts the endorphins for me.

For me i like the following:

Good music with a good mix (enough bachata, and some cha cha), and different styles of salsa.

A DJ that feels the crowd. (metaphorically speaking)

Lots of people to dance with, but not too many, i get wrecked sometimes when there arent enough men.

A good floor like the one in Dun na Si, or the Greville arms. Greville is nice and fast, i can pull off 6,7 sometimes 8 spins pretty easy. Dun na si floor is nice and big and smooth. Some floors wreck my shoes, or arent even and cause stumbles etc.

A good suply of shirts and a towel

Air con! Oh a nice cool breeze make it sweeter!

And all the tap water i can drink!

The combination of form and expectation is important too, you know how sometimes you feel great, and are expecting a great night, and it turns out to be a disappointment, or sometimes when you feel cr*p and have zero expectations you go and have a great night!

Most importantly, meeting my friends. I love my friends, that why they are my friends and for many of them a salsa night is the only time i see them.
