Westman09 - you're a thread-starting machine! There not being a variety of clubs to pick and choose from in Cork at the moment, can I ask a different question - what makes a good club for you, and what ruins one?

I love Tuesday's at the Turks Head, its free and the air conditioning is finally working!!
For me, I hate crowded dancefloors, where people are being swung around with no consideration for anyone else.
After mentioning temperature, I'm not too worried about being hot and sweaty, adds to the latin feel!
A good vibe, where there is no pretence, friendly crowd and willingness to accept a dance. I am not sure if its the same everywhere, but its nice in both the Garda Club and Turks head that its unusual for an offer to dance to be turned down.
Its a nice touch to also be able to help yourself to the jugs or glasses of water.

Saturdays seem a bit lame in Dublin at the moment for salsa. I went to Pacino's the other day, but it was pretty awful - the dance floor slopes, and is long and thin making the combination of LA and Cuban on the same floor a liability. We ended up at Havana on Georges St, where there was live percussion, a great music mix and a good vibe. I'm not sure if it's the same every week though. Is there anything else on Saturdays?
A proper dance floor - as opposed to a few tables being cleared out of the way - definitely makes for a good club, as does having the opportunity to sit down for a good chat with your friends if you're not dancing ALL the time!

I'dd agree with rosybb. I too see havana as the warmest place4salsa on saturdays. Despite having a very small dancefloor, most dancers understand this and almost dance in turns, which is a sign of great dance education. We were even able to do a couple of ruedas undisturbed. Overall, the attitude of the people combined with the atmosfere, a verry good playlist enhanced by the live percution make a good thang4a sat night out. Problem is, it's not exactly the more the merrier. So, to paraphrase a contemporary ad-clip: "Yeah, it's good, but you won't like it!"
But I think for Dublin, by far the best dance night&place is Garda club on Thursdays. Excellent floor (actually, with good shoes, a bit too good, I can do a double turn in my skatershoes) nice enough music, with a lot of variations and DJs that listen2peoples' requests (no reggaeton, sry, but HA-HA), an excellent penaj (not sure about this word in english) of partners (number-, style- and level-wise) and widest space i know in Dublin. And that's not even mentioning the 4 classes.

Hi Folks,
Personally I envy Dublin / Galway having such choice in terms of dance clubs and such competition! If I was situated in either location I dont think I'd ever stop dancing!
Good floors, good music, yes good to have, but thats not what makes me want to dance somewhere.
For me, what seperates a good club from a bad one is the attitude of the people in it. Willingness to dance with new people, friendliness and courtesy on and off the dancefloor, and an understanding that asking someone to dance isnt the same as 'hitting' on them Sadly I've been to one latin club in Dublin that didnt really measure up on that front.
I quite like the Odeon, if I'm in the big smoke, but for friendliness + fun atmosphere the Office in Galway deffo deserves a mention. Really nice people there, last I checked

I'm surprised I haven't been corrected in my list of clubs except for Saturday...Hugh where were you harrassed...
The Garda club comes in for good mention-at what level would you say the dancers there are in general?

Hey westman09 i don't think anyone would want to corrected some one who is just emailing and expecting to be corrected..if you know you need to be corrected you could corrected your self in what ever you think you need .. when it comes to club listing...
AS for Hugh1a , feel very sorry for you.. because i know what is like.. a girl ask me to dance i was expecting just a dance and she started hitting on me.. never went back to that place i was expecting more from that club didn't measure up on that front for me 2..
the good thing is that we have salsa clubs to votes in Dublin.. some places es don't have one..

Hey westman09
I wouldnt say harrassed, just more than a little disappointed with the welcome + attitude in one place. One swallow doesnt make a summer, so I might give it another shot someday.
Of course theres always the possiblity my leprosy, hunchback, gold teeth, glass eye and dual wooden legs ( Arrrrr ) might have put people off. I also may have given the wrong impression by waving my hook in a semi beckoning gesture as an invitation to dance. Who knows.
Great interesting threads popping up at the mo - keep up the good work all
Sexy Mario, you have to remember: you are SEXY Mario, such titles have obligations to live up to. I'm just glad I'm known as one-eyed, three fingered, tree legged Pete !

I think the Mint is good for Fridays .... wait for it ... BUT you should realise something before you go. I was a scared puppy first time i went to the Mint (long time ago) so i studied everything about the place and this is what I learned as an Improver:
The actual dance floor is tiny so Everywhere is the dance floor
I knew more Salsa than 80% of the dancers, most people are there to have fun. But you that also means "No" to some dances, so don't get disheartened.
There are plenty of single women/guys there.
Thankfully women do realise it's a Friday night club and i am hitting on them in the nicest way.
Reggetron is popular with the DJ
DRINKS ARE EXPENSIVE (please don't come back at me on this one)
There is huge possibility for Fun/Conversation/Dancing
