Hi Folks,

Just going to throw a question out there:

Salsa Slims: what do you think?

A worthy combination / merge of two seperate goals or is it really salsa at all?

To me it's Not salsa at all.

It's aerobics and for aerobics it's great, fun, ebergitic and people are out doing something and listening to music and getting energised.

I would also include the new craze Zumba - again not salsa it's Aerobics and again, great for what it is.

people who say OH YEAH I can dance i've done salsa slim :-) they make me smile.

But again to answer your question, no not salsa, Aerobics and well done to people for getting out and doing it

At best salsa slims is a kind of ladies styling class but I don't see it as really being salsa at all myself.. My wife signed up for a course once and after 2 classes she didn't bother going to the rest of the course as she found it too frustrating as a salsa dancer going to something that wasn't really salsa at all..

Have to say I also can't see the point of Zumba at all.. Reminds me a bit of Tai-Bo, a craze that will last a year at most and then die a death..

I like the idea of excercise please dont get me wrong, and weigh ins and team support for weight loss definitely work imo.

What I would wonder is how many people are enticed by the word Salsa, instead of the word slim?  If you want to slim, then its seems like a good choice, if you want to salsa, then the name is really misleading, and arguably taking from the rice bowls of the Salsa pure blood teachers, or am I wrong?    I also hate those silly ads with, "I joined at 40st and now I'm a size 10, all from salsa" .

Cobblers, I've been dancing 3 years now, and I havent gained or lost a pound.   Diet and self-dicipline was the key to that lady's dramatic weight loss - in my opinion

I dont Dance Zumba but I have seen it done and I have seen Salsa slim done.. Salsa slim IS not a Partner dance.. But i Think Zumba Dos exactly what it says on the tin..

I think Zumba will last alot more then a year .Because it do sexactly what it says' i think'. If it dos not last is because thos who where involved in marketing where not brilliant marketers and could not spot talent for recruitment or   it could last with a New Name and Zumba dies.... .I can only help so much ... I see so much potential something like Zumba ... but I will give a piss advice for those that are running it. learn from what is not yours and make it yours ....

Zumba is HORRIBLE. I was interested in giving it a go because the youtube videos make it look great. I don't know if I was unlucky with the teacher but its awful.

I think its like the salsa slims thing. If you haven't done any dance it could be great. Its just very basic steps to music. But for anyone who dances, don't do it, its like doing basic for an hour... and even then they can't even get that right!

I'm a big fan of Les Mills body jam, but even in the latin sections of those routines I cringe and die too!

But anything that get people off their asses and dancing around has to be a good thing, I suppose!

I use to go drinking every weekend and buy a shite load of greasy food at start and end of what i'd call a drinking session.

Salsa gets you into a different frame of mind. Four hours dancing around the dance floor is more enjoyable than a giant packet of crisps, some crappy tv series that you don't really like and domino's / chineese on stand by. (topped by a chocolat dessert)

Exercise does make you eat but it also makes you drink.. Water.. i don't think i've ever drank so much water before salsa. And lets face it most people don't drink the amount they should. This promotes heathly skin which makes you look/feel good which in turn makes you like salsa even more, even though it's yourself not abusing you body with junk (all the time)

What worries me most about huge amounts of salsa is the redbull approach some people take to dance 3 to 4 days in a row.

On a completely different level it is an area where people will compliment you (from time to time) which also promotes your will power for eating healthy and staying the shape you are?

best wishes

Red bull is the work of the devil.   I know lets do a ton of exercise.  Hang on I feel tired.   Lets drink concentrated caffeine and sugar topped with lots of citric acidy goodness.   Ok, now I'm wide awake and my body is doing flip flops.  That feels sooooo much better...

Jez LL, surprised you're not a gravitational force based on that diet    Whatever happened to 3 bowls of corn-flakes a day?

It is true though, the Salsa high is better than the beer high, but likewise, the salsa low ( being off form ) is worse.

/H.
