Good timing and basic steps is sooo much better imho.
There's alot you can do with a basic cbl.

It's not important what you do, but HOW you do it...... El Matador replied on 22/09/2008 @ 15:34 |

Exactly - think quality, not quantity! - Edited by Gary on 22/09/2008 at 16:27

There is no such thing as "good moves and no timing". The moves aren't good if they are not on time. It is definitely much more enjoyable to dance with a beginner who is doing basic moves and cross body leads but on time and who is exited about getting it right!
One thing to consider though - may be sometimes when we think someone is off time that is because they are dancing on2 and you are dancing on1 or vice versa - sometimes people are not aware that there are different styles and timings

I know what you mean Nat... but seriously I don't know if its a Paris thing and they are all just confused from dancing On1, On2 and Puerto Rican On2... but there is a lot of On 3/5 going on here!! Julie replied on 28/09/2008 @ 12:07 |

"but there is a lot of On 3/5 going on here!!"
You could start a whole new craze doing that....
Ok, Maybe not.

Good timing is essential! Then both partners can really feel the music and start to interpret the breaks; even if only using completely basic steps and adding a shoulder rotation or a bodywave. Good basic is gooooooood! La Bachatera replied on 05/10/2008 @ 14:50 |

I hate it when the LADY doesn't look at her partner (me) .
If I wanted to dance alone I would...
but I choose to dance with someone to feel that connection ;-)

absolutely right Taurus, that's really annoying !!!!! El Matador replied on 08/10/2008 @ 15:56 |

I hate it when a dance partner has no eye contact. I don't mind it so much from a beginner when they are trying. (I remember finding it embarrasing at the start, gazing into the eyes of a virtual stranger.) But from dancers that just seem more than capable, but have no connection with you. Like they are bored of your presence and the fact that they need you there to show off their moves.
Like you say Taurus... If I wanted to dance on my own...

I have been thaught, long time ago, that one dances WITH someone, not AT someone......
The longer I dance, the longer I agree with this idea...
p.s. I must be really OLD, I have been dancing for 8 years now .....aaaaggggghhhhhhhhh
