Hi Davey, as I said earlier the best what?  The best club dancer, the best exhibition/competition dancer, the best teacher-dancer, the best all rounder, the best on 1 specialist, on 2, cuban , ethnic, freestyle,  the best lead with total beginners, the best lead with other experts?     The best dancer is as subjective a term as you can get.

I've met some brilliant dancers, some brilliant teachers, some brilliant club dancers etc  but my opinion is I havent met anyone yet that has 'wowed me' on all these levels, so I havent met the best, if such a person exists.    If that person does exist then most likely that person is a freak of nature, who sooner or later will chased by an angry mob with pitchforks and torches.

There are teaching styles I like and I hate and dancing styles I like and I hate, so is the best dancer the one who can lead his/her lady into a somersault?  Or the person who can dance with anyone?

ps.  the quote is probably extremely paraphrased as my memory is rusty:  its from an article on why true black belts should really wear white/red belts when they attain ummm 6th? Dan?    As I couldnt recall the word for word quote I put the 'paraphrased' disclaimer

Anywho it was a good quasi-quote but also gibberish, as is the question of the 'best' dancer

The best wont care what the answer to that question will be      [ mainly cos, y'know the pitchforks and torches will keep him busy ]

MTC/H.

Lots of presumptive testosterone here with the assumption that the best dancer is a man...

The best dancer in Ireland is Johnny Hips from Magherafelt.  You can find him in Copperface Jacks the second Sunday of every October.  He's also handy with a pitchfork so I wouldn't go chasing him anywhere.

Hi Jak,  I have rectified my presumptive comment to include both sexes, though I did concentrate on the lead

Ciaran,  a bold comment, who is this erm un-masked man?   Got a link to back that up?

Or was that a joke?  ( if it was I didnt get it )

I live in a very simple world where when you want to stay out of something you don't dip your toe in it and wave the rule book saying "Now, I'm not going to say anything but look at what the rule book says!"

The Globe on Wednesday's is pretty much the only place in Dublin to dance bachata. If you're lucky you get 3 songs in the Garda club and not even that in the Odeon. Well done Mario for not listeneing to the naysayers and coming up with a bachata only club. I personally cant blame you for trying to get the word out. It would be great if we could have a salsa/bachata club for the weekends too. Many have tried and all have failed as far as I can tell....

Keep up the good work...

Hey donkeykong,

Like the handle    The problem here is balance, salsa newbies dont like too much bachata - they cant dance to it    The floor tends to empty a little for bachata, not because its not a good dance, but because they ( and I ) dont know it well enough yet to be confident in it, and lets face it confidence is key to getting your salsa 'high'

I think its great that bachata is taking off as a dance in Ireland - and I think an all bachata club is a cool ( if ambitious ) idea.

I've tried cleaning up this thread a bit but to be honest it's just too messy. Mario you were bang out of order starting what was blatantly a baiting thread to try and get people to talk about your clubs. If this happens again you WILL be banned from the site. I have deleted your other thread and any posts in this thread that you have made and I am locking the thread so it will have no more discussion.

If anyone who is not currently running a bachata club would like to continue a PROPER discussion on the topic they are welcome to but all promoters are warned, that is not an excuse to try and advertise your own clubs\classes in the forum. We have class and club listings for self promotion and we want to keep it that way...
